Once again, it is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Every October for the past 18 years, the U.S. government’s Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, aka CISA, and the National Cyber Security Alliance, aka NCSA, have organized Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The purpose of the campaign is to ensure that all Americans have the necessary resources to be safe and secure in their online activities.
This year, CISA and NCSA are focusing on the following areas for each week in October:
- Be Cyber Smart.
- Phight the Phishing attacks!
- Experience. Share. – Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week
- Cybersecurity First
Protect Your Business
Cybersecurity Awareness Month is the perfect time to make certain that your business is secure from cyberattacks. Failure to do so can cause a significant financial loss as well as a disruption in your company’s operations. As a VCIO, I work with all employees, from senior leadership to new hires, keeping data safe from cybercriminals and bad actors. I also analyze your company’s systems for security lapses. And, I train all so that cybersecurity is top of mind, thus creating a culture where all understand the importance of a secure organization.
The Basics
I previously recorded a video, Kick Off the New Year with Security and the Right Technology. In the video, I offer some essential security tips. Even though this video is from January, it’s always a good time to check on your security. Anyway, the following are among my tips:
- Change your passwords regularly.
- Plan for remote work.
- Check your technology subscriptions.
- Replace obsolete equipment.
- Keep all operating systems and software up to date with patches.
- Review your agreements.
I also did a Tech Tip about Network Security and Hackers which you may find interesting.
It is only a matter of time until you become a victim. You’ve already been skirting the issue and tempting fate. STOP. You must stay ahead of the hackers and cybercriminals out there. Please contact me discuss your security measures. I will help you protect your business.
